Two Doors

light flowingDeep in the seat of consciousness, in a complete state of bliss, I was at once the light of creation flowing in, and the darkness at the moment of illumination.

I heard a voice, at first a whisper, like a fine mist in my ear. The voice became louder, but still distant. It was the sound of cloudless blue skies, fresh strawberries still warm from the sun, jasmine flowers in bloom.

"Come with me, I want to show you something."

I opened my eyes and suddenly I was falling. Boundless ignorance invaded every cell of my being, punctuated by flashes of infinite, imperceptible possibilities.

Just when I thought I would succumb to oblivion I made impact on a cold stone slab, my soul shattered like glass.

I had been here before. I remember vaguely, hours spent desperately trying to lift myself after falling, with my mind poured out like water, rivulets of belief running down the tiles, until finally daylight came and I was found and put away.

I gathered myself up quickly, confidently. I am stronger now. I release doubts and fears to embrace the eternal energy of creation. I am whole.

stone slab"Come follow me. I want to show you the truth." I followed the voice, closer now. The sound had become a cool babbling stream flowing into my parched soul.

"You must choose a path." I was shown two doors side by side. Beyond one I could see a faint glimmer of fire, beyond the other only darkness.

"Which one is correct, which will you choose?" The voice pressed me, impatient.

"Neither," I said, "neither one is correct, and they both lead to the same place." I spoke and was drawn through a third door that appeared between the two.

As I crossed the threshold I was reunited with the stream of energy, joined by a multitude other souls and we laughed together, sharing a secret, and overcome with joy. We laughed, because we knew, and it was so very beautiful.

Then they were gone and I cried, because I couldn't remember.

What did we know?
